The bag that won't shut
You know the feeling. Everything's on the bed, you've folded it twice, and the lid still won't close. So you kneel on it. Or you pull things out. Or you give up and pay to check a bag you didn't want to check.
The clothes aren't the problem. It's the air between them.
StayFlat pulls the air out. Same clothes, about half the space. Suddenly it shuts — and suddenly a week fits in the bag you're already allowed to bring.

Packing cubes tidy your clothes up, but they don't remove any air — you end up with the same volume, just in neater blocks.
Cheap vacuum bags do remove the air, then leak it back in, crack at the seams and give up after two or three trips.
Three steps. Under a minute.
Fill it
Fold your clothes how you normally would and load the bag. The window on the front means you can see what's in each one without unzipping it.
Seal it
Zip the fully enclosed waterproof zipper. The T-shaped tab means it still opens easily when the bag's packed tight.
Compress it
Open the one-way valve, hold the pump against it, press the button. Watch it shrink. Close the valve. Done.
Getting there was never the hard part
Sunday night. Flight at six. The bag's fuller than when you arrived, there's dirty washing that won't fold as neatly, and whatever you bought has to fit somewhere.
Every packing trick on the internet works exactly once — on the way out. The bin-bag hack needs a vacuum cleaner. The cheap pump's already broken.
Pump it or roll it, on the floor of the room, and everything fits again.
Cheaper than checking one bag
$99.9 once. A checked bag is $85 each way, every trip, for the rest of your life. One return trip without checking and it's already paid for itself.
Questions people actually ask
How much space does it actually save?
How much space does it actually save?
Depends what you're packing. Bulky, air-filled things — jumpers, jackets, hoodies, towels, doonas — compress the most, often by half or more. Jeans, shoes and hard items compress much less. Most people find a week to ten days fits into the space that used to hold three or four days.
Does it make my bag lighter?
Does it make my bag lighter?
No — and anyone telling you otherwise is having you on. Same clothes, same kilos. What changes is the space they take up. If you're flying Jetstar or Virgin and they weigh your carry-on at the gate, this won't get you under 7kg. What it does is let you fit everything into the one bag you're allowed, so you're not checking luggage at all.
Will my clothes get creased?
Will my clothes get creased?
Compressed clothes crease, same as anything packed tightly. Fine for jeans, jumpers, tees, activewear and anything heading for the wash. If you're travelling with a suit or a shirt you need crisp on arrival, hang that one separately
Do I need the pump?
Do I need the pump?
No. The pump's faster and gets it flatter, but you can seal the bag and roll the air out by hand. Handy when the battery's flat or the pump's buried in your other bag.
Can I use it while I'm away?
Can I use it while I'm away?
Yes — that's half the point. The pump's small enough to travel with, charges by USB-C, and you can repack anywhere. Hotel room, hostel, campsite, airport floor.
Is it reusable?
Is it reusable?
Yes. Open the valve, air goes back in, unzip, repack. Use it every trip.
What about the Jetstar carry-on changes?
What about the Jetstar carry-on changes?
From 2 February 2027 Jetstar drops the 7kg weight limit and switches to size instead — a free underseat bag at 40 × 30 × 20cm, with the overhead bag becoming a paid extra. Size is exactly what compression helps with, so if you're flying Jetstar after February this gets a lot more useful than it is today. We'll update this page when the change goes live.
